Apparently is was easter this weekend passed. I neglected to see it. Where I come from, seemed so far from what was supposed to be a long weekend of celebration.
Where I live, on Saturday, we decided to burn down a house. Yes, I am not shitting you. In Eldorado Park, we burnt down a drug dealers house commonly referred to as “Ou huis”. Now I know most of you will say. “Good for you, ridding your community of the abcess which was allowed to fester.”
But have you ever seen mob justice in action? No? Well I have, and there was nothing judicious about it. Did anyone ask the neighbours how the fuck it felt to have their families on the property next to the burning house? This is not sandton or Killarney, where the properties are far apart from each other (free standing houses). In Eldo’s, your neighbors are too close for comfort and can hear you farting in your bathroom.
I have lived through a similar incident, where I lost a good friend who had been brutally stabbed but a psychotic 15 year old high on crystal meth (tik). Mob Justice is nothing like flash mobs that have coreographed steps and moves planned.
They just go “befok”, they lose control and innocent bystanders are generally the first to feel injuries, as they (neighbours) get accused of not “doing” anything to get these people out. I have been on that side of the pointed finger.I have almost shat myself, staring into menacing eyes, who was just waiting for an opportunity to slap me silly.
Damage caused to the property which was most probably rented, would not have felt the pinch of having their house razed to the ground. In fact, it didn’t impact them at all. Except to the poor shmuck who was stuck indoors. what would you have done, braved blood thirsty crowds, or remain in a burning house, and pray to God that the firefighters get you before you’re badly burnt.
Mob justice makes us look like knuckle heads.
I know plenty of people would like to see justice served in their own areas. But trust me when i say: be careful what you wish for!
